The Choices Surrounding Back to school

Each choice we make stems from wanting to do what will best serve either ourselves or the person(s) involved. When students return to school this fall, parents and teachers alike will be faced with a multitude of these choices.

For vaccinated parents trying to get back to work in the office, there are still concerns about sending their younger, unvaccinated kids back to schools which have mostly done away with COVID safety measures. We have seen multiple times this summer instances of sleep-away camps experiencing COVID outbreaks, a potential sign of what’s to come this fall.

For teachers, the past year has placed an exceptional amount of strain on their profession. Expected to educate and at times simply occupy a classroom worth of students either virtually, in-person from behind plexiglass, or worst; both at the same time. If students are returning to full classrooms with masks being optional, it’s the teachers who expect to be protected by the school system just like any other employer would in an office.

Fortunately, solutions do exist to help ease the choice for both parents and teachers. RAND Inc. surveyed 2,015 parents of children age 5–18 in May 2021 about their willingness to send their children to school in person in fall 2021. Their top priority when it came to safety this fall was ventilation. The only problem? Price.

At BOX Pure Air we’ve made it our mission to help schools implement HEPA certified air filtration units that remove 99.99% of airborne pathogens including COVID-19. We offer stand-alone and in-duct units that cost far less than the $1 million or more it takes to replace a building’s entire HVAC unit.
